Hi, friends and fellow campus ministers,
I am honored to serve as president of the Campus Crosswalk Board, following in the footsteps of some of my campus ministry heroes. I am excited by the potential we have in our high tech culture to make a huge impact for Christ. At our board meeting in Dallas this summer, and through subsequent email conversations, we as a board developed a mission statement to sharpen our focus as we work for Christ on our campuses. This is a measure that will shape everything we do as a board and as an organization, and the lens through which we evaluate decisions.
Our mission statement is:
“Pursuing God’s vision to transform the world for Christ through campus ministry”
The Campus Crosswalk board is committed to achieving our mission through:
- Promoting campus ministry to Christians and churches wherever we can.
- Networking campus ministers, campus ministries, churches, and resources.
- Training and supporting current and future campus ministers.
- Planning to strategically plant campus ministries.
Expect to hear more about each of these aspects of our mission in the upcoming months, but let me put in a plug for two of them right now. Two of the things we heard loud and clear from you (campus ministers) in Dallas are that we need networking and we need mentoring (training). We need to be connected to each other, and we need more experienced and mature campus ministers to mentor those who are still feeling their way as ministers (see my article on mentoring in the practicum section of this issue).
Agreed. That is important for us to do, so talk back to me! How would you suggest we accomplish these goals? Ideas? I look forward to hearing from you.
In the meantime, may God bless you as you live for Him on and off campus.
Yours in prayer,
Matt
