- The 50th National Campus Ministries Seminar is set for August 3-7 in Dallas, Texas! The first NCMS was held at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1957 and was then called the National Bible Chair Lectureship. This first lectureship started partly because of Firm Foundation’s special Bible Chair issue in 1957 and the start of at least twelve new campus programs that began from 1955 to 1957. Those involved in campus leadership, at the time, had a desire “to bring this new project and the urgency of it to the people of the churches of Christ.” The initial leadership for the first lectureship was done by Steven Eckstein’s then the Bible Chair Director at Eastern New Mexico University. - The 2006 NCMS will be held on the campus of Southern Methodist University hosted by the Campus CrossWalk board in conjunction with SMU’s Mustangs for Christ which is the campus ministry program of the Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas. The Radisson Hotel (plus others) will be a nearby place to stay as well as on campus. For further NCMS information check the Campus CrossWalk website or contact NCMS coordinator Jim Barnett, Preston Road campus minister, at or call 214.526.7221 *813. CCW senior editor, Milt Jones, is serving as “point-man” for the 2006 seminar program, while other board members Jason Locke, Matt Carter and Tim Melikian will coordinate enrollment.
- My two year term of office as president of the CCW board ended March 31, 2006. I am pleased to inform you that Matt Carter, campus minister at Kansas State University, has been elected by the board and will become the new president April 1. Carter has a great thirst not only to serve his Kansas students for the Lord but he has, not only visionary plans nationally for new campus ministry/church plantings, but world-wide goals as well! Matt has foreign mission experience and recently did a study of international apprenticeships for campus ministers so they could come to the United States as interns. Our incoming president also directed the 2004 National Campus Ministries Seminar at Kansas State which was very successful. I wish Matt the very best as our new CCW board president and look forward to the vision column he plans to write in the spring edition of CCW and know he will also appreciate all our prayers!
- This is my 40th year in campus ministry and I will also be leaving the Campus CrossWalk board. I want to thank all the members of the board for their dedication and hard work for the cause of Christ and college students and to all of you who are willing to not forget the church’s most neglected mission point in America: the college campus! I look forward to seeing you at our 50th NCMS in Dallas.
