Reaching New Levels of Faith

Book Review by Bill Stewart

Campus CrossWalk, Summer Edition, 2005

Parents, elders, teachers, and friends have all wondered why the faith of others isn’t where their faith is. We ask ourselves, “Why can’t they see the danger, or blessing, in doing it my way?” Curtis Hartshorn has done a masterful job in describing levels of faith. As I was reading his book Reaching New Levels of Faith, I found myself picturing people I know and have known in my life. For the first time I understand why they responded the way they did.

Reaching New Levels of Faith is a great tool for teaching people of all ages. Curtis does not say in his book that a certain stage of faith is limited to the young, middle age, or older group of people. We know that a seventy-five year old person may be immature in their faith, and a nineteen year old may have already reached mature faith. For example, look at Joseph in the Old Testament. He was but a teenager when he was taken away from his family and homeland. However, he remained faithful to God through all his trials.

Understanding the levels of faith that people go through enables us to become a greater help to others as all of us strive to reach new levels. Thank you Curtis for your great insight into the levels of faith and for being able to put your thoughts on paper.
