We are all looking forward to the 49th National Campus Ministries Seminar at Oklahoma University August 4-7. We will have a luncheon and business meeting for all campus ministers on Friday, August 5. If you have any agenda items please submit them to me by July 15 at
The 50th National Campus Ministries Seminar will be held in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in August of 2006. Information about the 2006 seminar will be presented by Todd Stancil, campus minister at the University of Alabama. Stancil is chairing a CCW board sub-committee for the 2006 NCMS and will give a full report at our business meeting at OU August 5. For the first time the CCW board will be responsible for hosting NCMS (no other campus ministry or sponsoring church submitted an application for 2006 and the CCW board has ultimate responsibility for seminar according to our CCW bi-laws).
Applications for hosting the 2007 NCMS are now available. The seminar rotates to a different time-zone each year and the 07 seminar is scheduled for the Western and Rocky Mountain time-zones. If your campus ministry or local church/churches are interested in hosting the 2007 seminar please contact me at RnLRowland@aol.com or by phone at 951.277.0763 for applications which should be submitted by July 15, 2005. Potential hosts should be prepared to make a presentation at the 2005 NCMS luncheon business meeting on Friday, August 5 at OU. Following the potential hosts’ presentations, a vote will be taken to select the 51st NCMS host.
If you have nominations for the 2005 National Campus Ministry Awards please send names to Mike Buckley, campus minister at the University of Tennessee, . The Stephen Eckstein award goes to a man and the Bessie Woodward award goes to a female (past award winners are not eligible for the award).
I have “officially” retired at Pepperdine University (as of July 31, 2005) after 30 years at the Malibu campus and have accepted a part-time position as assistant men and women’s swimming coach at California Baptist University in Riverside (my son, Wm. Rick Rowland is the head men and women’s swimming and water polo coach at CBU and he was once my assistant swim and water polo coach at Pepperdine). During the 2004-05 school year I served as a volunteer assistant swim coach at Cal Baptist (I am still the external college age ministry leader at the Murrieta Church of Christ).
