- Over 500 attended the 49th National Campus Ministries Seminar at the University of Oklahoma, August 4-7. The seminar has received kudos from so many and NCMS Director Tim Melikian, the Sooners for Christ and the Alameda Church of Christ are to be further congratulated (and THANKED) for being such super hosts!
- The 50th NCMS will be held August 3-7, 2006 in Dallas, Texas and will be hosted by Campus CrossWalk in conjunction with Mustangs for Christ which is the campus ministry program at Southern Methodist University sponsored by the Preston Road Church of Christ. Jim Barnett, campus minister for Preston Road and SMU, will be coordinating the 2006 NCMS. Milt Jones is the Campus CrossWalk “point-man” for the Dallas seminar program and Jason Locke, Matt Carter and Tim Melikian will coordinate enrollment. Brian Cobb will handle the www duties for promoting NCMS 2006 in cooperation with Barnett and the CCW board.
- Three new Campus CrossWalk board members were introduced at the final night’s program of the 2005 NCMS. The new members are campus ministers Sarah Johnson of Middle Tennessee University, Jason Locke of West Virginia University and Linda Truschke of Pepperdine University.
- Highlights of the August 3, 2005 business meeting of campus ministers at Oklahoma University included these reports by CCW board members in their areas of responsibility:
- Rick Rowland reported that applications for hosting the 2007 NCMS are still available and need to be submitted by April 15, 2006. Application forms are available at , or call 951.277.0763. Applicants for hosts can be from any time-zone since no one from the Western and Rocky Mountains submitted applications for 2007 NCMS.
- Joel Solliday, editior of Campus CrossWalk, desires more writers for CCW who are willing to do articles dealing with practical topics. Joel wants to add more articles by women as well. The theme for the Winter is scheduled to be: “A Plurality of One: Christian Unity with Christian Conviction.”
- Matt Carter, foreign campus ministries and treasurer. Matt presented the need for international apprenticeships for campus ministers to go abroad and have intern/apprenticeships come to the U.S. As Treasurer for CCW, Matt presented the need for all campus ministries to make their yearly contributions to CCW. Please send contributions to Matt at Cats for Christ Campus Center, 1501 North Denison, Manhattan, KS 66502.
- Dean Barham, promotion and public relations. Dean will promote CCW where possible, but, is switching his main responsibility to work with Tim Melkian on campus ministry/church combo encouragement plantings.
- Tim Melikian, campus ministry/church combo plantings encouragement. Tim presented various ideas on possible ties with the National Conference of Youth Ministers and possibilities in the future. He reports that 550 attended this years NCMS and 39 different campus ministries were represented.
- Brian Cobb, Webmaster (via Matt Carter). Brian reports that CCW in 2004 had 119,057 page views; 2005 thru July had 113,084 page views; average of 534 page views per day in 2005; 200,000 is Brian’s projected page views for 2005. Brian wants more campus ministers to try “CCW Connected” virtual community for campus ministers.
- Milt Jones, Senior Editor, introduced Jim Barnett of SMU and the Preston Road Church of Christ and presented plans for 2006 NCMS in Dallas.
- Mike Buckley, is the campus ministers placement service director, the NCMS awards coordinator, and our NCMS list-serve facilitator. He reported on his areas and encouraged all to keep him abreast of openings in campus ministry.
- Jason Locke, since being added to the CCW board, has accepted the call to serve as the directory coordinator and news editor for CCW. Please get any happenings of local or national interest to him to place in future issues of Campus Crosswalk.
- Scott Lambert told about his plans for leaving Pepperdine as campus minister to begin a position in church planting with the El Segundo (CA) Hilltop Church of Christ. Lambert has served almost 20 years in campus ministry at Pepperdine and will be “greatly” missed, but, his plans include, when possible, to help plant campus ministries in conjunction with the local church. Lambert plans to be at next year’s NCMS!
